Raising Money
Black faced minstrel show was held each spring. John Morgan conducted the show. Racially sensitive, the show was replaced with a variety show. After one season it was discontinued, due to lack of interest. We have held light bulb sales, fertilizer sales, mop and broom sales, had a barbeque chicken sale on the bypass center meriden in 1983, white cane day at Wall- Mart, Golf tournaments and many other ways we raised money. A parade down Kleberg and a Halloween Carnival became a yearly event. Some of the attractions were, the dunking booth, Age guessing, ring toss , basket ball throw, base ball throw, Photo booth, bingo, penny pitch, dart throw, wheel of fortune, fish pond, cake walk, door prizes, country store, bowling pins, haunted house, fire truck rides, wagon rides, food booth and others. Held on Kleberg and HEB parking lot until moved to different locations over the years. Was held at Aisle and Brahma, Northway, and Southgate Mall Meeting Locations We have met at many locations, First United Methodist Church, Booster hall, Fielders, Holiday Inn, Bonanza, Roundtable Inn, Casa Ricardo Hotel, Nolans, Sirloin Stockade and El Jardin.
